PSSC – Professional Services Short Contract

Suitable for professional services contracts between a Client and a Consultant. It is intended for all sectors of the industry, including civil, building, nuclear, oil & gas, and infrastructure, where relatively straightforward consultancy services are required.

The PSSC contract type is part of the NEC4 family and is ideal for smaller commissions or less complex scopes of work. It is commonly used for activities such as feasibility studies, design services, project management, supervision, and advisory roles.

The key parties on the NEC4 PSSC type of contract are:

Client

This is the organisation with which the Consultant has a contract, also referred to as the commissioning organisation.

Consultant

This is the service provider delivering the professional services under the contract. The Consultant is responsible for managing the scope, deliverables, and communication with the Client.

Consultant

- Raise early warnings with delay, cost, and performance implications

- Raise Compensation Events

- Submit instructions to submit a quotation

- Submit Quotations against CEs

- Submit the final assessment of the remaining amount

- Propose changes in scope

- Submit programme or key deliverable schedules

- Communicate internally for contract-related queries

- Raise late notices

- Request extension of time

Client

- Initiate the contract

- Raise early warnings with delay, cost, and performance implications

- Review and accept the Consultant’s deliverables or designs

- Decide on completion dates or key milestones

- Instruct Consultant to submit/resubmit quotations

- Accept or reject submitted quotations

- Notify the Consultant of Compensation Events

- Raise assessments against CEs

- Review Compensation Events

- Approve time extensions

- Review completion certificates or reports

- Certify final payment and closure
