NOTE: eFunctionality is part of the Cognitive CDE add-on feature which involves commercial costs. Please contact your Asite representative for more details.
What is eFunctionality?
eFunctionality is a Cognitive CDE function that helps you ask questions and generates summaries across all your project files. It includes two features:
Wide eDiscovery - Ask questions or request summaries across an entire project. The bot will only use content from the selected project.
DeepDive - Focus on a single file within a project. You can ask detailed questions and the bot will respond with answers from that file.
How Do I Access Wide eDiscovery?
Select the project you want to import into the AI.
Go to the Files tab and select Cognitive CDE from the sub-tabs.
Confirm your project selection and click Next.
Choose the LLM (Large Language Model) you'd like to use (Google AI or Microsoft Azure).
Tick the box to confirm you have read and understood the current AI limitations.
Click Make Available for AI.
Your project will then be prepared for AI processing. This may take a few minutes.
Understanding Wide eDiscovery
Once your selected project has been vectorised, the Wide eDiscovery view lets you interact with Cognitive CDE by asking questions about the project.
You can also track your conversation history and manage how results are displayed.
Refer to the image and table below to understand each part of the Wide eDiscovery screen:
Number | Title | Description |
1 | Project Name | Shows the project selected for vectorisation. |
2 | RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) Bar |
|
3 | Chat History | Lists all current and previous conversations with the bot. |
4 | New Conversation | Start a new conversation with the bot. |
5 | View buttons: (how many files are displayed at once, Customise button and maximise screen button) | A set of buttons to manage how results are displayed:

How Do I Access DeepDive?
Once you've implemented Wide eDiscovery, you can access DeepDive directly from the file list on the right-hand side:
The file will open in full view, with the chat panel on the right-hand side. From here, you can in type any question or request, and Cognitive CDE will generate detailed responses based solely on the contents of that file.
Understanding DeepDive
DeepDive is designed for situations where you need to focus on a single file rather than an entire project. Instead of searching across hundreds of documents, DeepDive allows you to stay within one file and explore it in depth.
With DeepDive, you can:
Ask highly specific questions about the file's content.
Request clear explanations or summaries of complex sections.
Engage in a conversational back-and-forth, refining your questions as you go.
The system is responsive and context-aware, therefore, it doesn't just provide surface answers; it works through the file with you, understanding your prompts and returning insights that match the detail you're looking for.
Wide eDiscovery and DeepDive
Function | Wide eDiscovery | DeepDive |
Scope of query | Processes queries across the entire vectorised project. | Restricts queries to a single file selected by the user. |
Summarisation | Generates summaries spanning multiple documents. | Produces focused summaries on an individual file. |
Interpretation style | Operates in literal retrieval mode. E.g. a query for "empty pages" matches only that text string. | Operates in a cognitive interpretation mode. E.g. detects whether a document structurally contains an empty page. |
Metadata configuration | Customisable attributes in the RAG bar via the Customise button. | Not applicable. |
System prompts | Currently ignores system prompts. | Supports advanced system prompts with deeper control over scope, offering more accurate and adaptable output. |
Scalability | Suitable for very large projects (hundreds of thousands of files). | Suitable for deep analysis of individual files, including lengthy reports and technical drawings. |
Intended use case | Breadth: discovery, analysis at the project level. | Depth: exploration, interrogation of a single file. |
Deleting a Project from AI
You can remove a project from AI at any time. This will permanently delete all AI-generated chats and history for that project, while leaving the project itself in your CDE unaffected.
NOTE: The purge process works the same in both Wide eDiscovery and DeepDive.
Steps to Delete a Project From AI
In either Wide eDiscovery or DeepDive, click the cog icon (top right).
From the pop-up, select Advanced Settings.
In the new window, select Remove Project.
Confirm by clicking Permanently Remove Project.
