A Hierarchical Attribute Set creates a dependency between two dropdown Attributes, where the value selected for the Parent Attribute determines which values are available for the Child Attribute.
EXAMPLE:
An Attribute Set contains two dropdown Attributes: Discipline and Time.
Discipline contains the values Engineering and Architecture, while Time contains the values 1 Month, 3 Months and 6 Months.
A Hierarchy can be created with Discipline as the Parent Attribute and Time as the Child Attribute. The values are then mapped based on the time periods that apply to each discipline:
Engineering is mapped to 3 Months and 6 Months.
Architecture is mapped to 1 Month and 3 Months.
Once the Hierarchy is configured, when a file is uploaded and its Attributes are selected, choosing Engineering under Discipline will make only 3 Months and 6 Months available under Time. Selecting Architecture will make only 1 Month and 3 Months available.
The Parent Attribute therefore controls which values are available for selection in the Child Attribute.
NOTE:
Each Hierarchy can map only two dropdown Attributes at a time: one Parent Attribute and one Child Attribute.
Multiple Hierarchies can be created within the same Attribute Set, and an Attribute used in one Hierarchy can also be mapped to another Attribute in a separate Hierarchy.
Three or more Attributes cannot be mapped within a single Hierarchy.
How Do I Configure a Hierarchical Attribute Set?
After configuring the Attributes as required, under Hierarchical Attribute Set, select Do you want to set hierarchy between two attributes?
TIP: The Save & Edit Hierarchy option will become available after selecting the Do you want to set hierarchy between two attributes? checkbox.
Click Save & Edit Hierarchy.
Under Hierarchical Set, select the Parent Attribute and Child Attribute.
Select the required value from the Parent Attribute. Multiple values can be selected.
Select the corresponding values from the Child Attribute to map to the selected Parent value. Multiple values can be selected.
Click Save.
To create additional mappings, click Add more Options and repeat the mapping process.
Once all required mappings have been created, click Review Hierarchy Sets.
The Hierarchy Sets pop-up will display the configured Hierarchy Sets.
Once the Hierarchy Sets have been reviewed, click Continue to Publish.
In the Publish pop-up, select the folders where the Attribute Set configured Hierarchies will apply.
Click Publish.
