Prepare Import Sheet for Importing Form Data from an MS Excel file

This article helps you understand how to prepare an import sheet for importing your form data from an MS Excel file.

Updated over 2 months ago

Users on Asite have a flexibility to import form data from an .XLSX file without having to key in all the information manually.

This option is available while creating a new form or while editing an ORI message based on configuration of respective form type in the selected project.

To enable this setting on a particular form type, go to the respective form settings and turn on the option 'You need to upload an XSLT for XML Import/Email In:' by selecting 'Yes'.

Below is a snapshot of an example Import Sheet in MS Excel:

The details of columns are as below:

Column A (Description): Field Label

Column B (Field Name): Data Field Name (Once configured this column can be hidden)

Column C (Field Value): Values to be filled and imported while creating the form

Please note the name of the sheet should be 'Single Value' as seen in above snapshot.

Accordingly, you can create a sample excel similar to above for your respective form fields.

Adding Data to a Repeating Table

When entering data for a repeating table, follow the format outlined below:

  • Field Naming Convention:
Ensure that you enter the repeating table name followed by the field name, separated by a forward slash (/).
Format: Repeating Table Name / Field Name

  • Multiple Rows in Repeating Table:
For tables with multiple rows, you can enter the data as demonstrated in the example provided in the above screenshot.

This format ensures clarity and consistency when managing data within repeating tables.

The resultant output while importing such data into the form will be as shown below - based on form design:

If you also need to include a link for users to download the import template separately in the form view as per above example, you can add a hyperlink control with the required display label and required public link. See a snapshot below from an Asite HTML AppBuilder form design:

The MS Excel needs to be in XLSX format and does not require any macros to be configured or enabled.
