This article helps you understand how to start a discussion on your files in Asite.

Users on Asite with required privilege can start a discussion / create aMessages on file to collaborate with other project users. aMessages created can be viewed and replied to by other users.

Asite Viewer allows users to view a file or drawing and also create, save and view markups on the file. These markups may be associated with discussion and forms for collaborating with other project team members.

1. To start a discussion, select the project folder under the 'Files' tab. Select file/s in which a aMessage is to be created. Availability of the option to start a discussion may depend upon your accessibility.

2. Click on icon to access more options. Select 'Files > Start a Discussion' option.

3. Click 'Start a Discussion' button. Files listing page populates a layered page with new aMessage window.

4. 'Start Discussion' page contains:

To [Task] - In this field you need to add recipients for this aMessage and also assign them various tasks along with completion time. You can assign tasks by clicking the down arrow next to username. An aMessage can be distributed to distribution groups, roles and organizations directly.


If you need to change the task assigned and its completion time for any individual user who is a part of either a distribution group, role or organization then user needs to click on the '+' icon on right of the distribution group, role or organization name.


A remove all button is available to remove all selected recipients and select new ones.

4a Title - Specify the title of the aMessage as it is mandatory.

4b Description - Specify the aMessage content in the 'Description' box. The text mentioned can be formatted using the rich text format options.


4c Mark As Private - To create private aMessage.

4d No Comment - If you don't want to create aMessage on file, select 'No Comment' and complete your 'For Comment' task.


4e More Options - Clicking the link, a layered page populates displaying three options - 'Associate Files', 'Associate aMessages' and 'Associate Apps'.


4e 1. Associate Files - To associate documents to this aMessage. Clicking the link, a layered page populates displaying the files you can select to associate with the comment being created.

4e 2. Associate aMessages - To associate other aMessages to this aMessage. Clicking the link, a layered page populates displaying the file aMessages you can select to associate with the comment being created.

4e 3. Associate Apps - To associate forms to this aMessage. Clicking the link, a layered page populates displaying the forms you can select to associate with the comment being created.

4e 4. Attachment - To attach external files from your computer. Clicking the link, a layered page populates allowing you to select and upload files.

5. Once done, click on 'Submit'.
